Okunomatsu Sakura Daiginjo

Okunomatsu Brewery

Gold medal winner in 2009 and 2010, this wonderful sake is brewed with pure spring water from Mount Adatara and high quality rice grown in Fukushima prefecture. This sake has a mellow aroma and flavor with a light clean finish. The packaging is inspired by the small, sakura petal-shaped bubbles that form on the surface of the sake during the fermentation process, giving it a look of blooming cherry blossoms.

ABOUT THIS BOTTLE

OKUNOMATSU SAKURA DAIGINJO

Beautifully clear. Aromas of vanilla nut brittle, coconut water, and papaya custard with a silky, dry-yet-fruity light-to-medium body and a pineapple sorbet, meringue, and salted radish-accented finish. Taste the umami of the rice, but none of the bitterness that sometimes accompany it. A soft, alluring, lovely sake with a nice balance of fruit; like a light kiss floating through the air among the falling sakura blossom petals.

TASTING NOTES

This sake is made from Gohyakumangoku rice that has been polished to 50%.

Okunomatsu Sake Brewery was founded at the beginning of the Edo period (1603–1868). They began as rapeseed oil merchants and by 1716, they were also producing miso, soy sauce, and of course, sake. Since then the spirit of their founder and his pursuit of high-quality sake brewing has been passed on generation to generation. Not only are they known for the quality of their sakes, but also their attention they give to packaging design, resulting in unique bottles.
